New game Wanderburg released in early access Steam September 8, 2026. The developers released a trailer to coincide with the launch, and the title has already managed to garner the status of “very positive” reviews with 437 user ratings.

Wanderburg is a minimalistic roguelike, the action of which takes place in a medieval world, where instead of static buildings, entire fortresses roam the lands.

The developers built the concept on an inversion of the usual logic of the genre. Castles here are not defended, but hunted themselves, while villages are forced to flee, and only the largest and most powerful stronghold survives.

The gameplay begins with a modest mobile castle on wheels, which with each new race transforms into a growing fighting machine, devouring everything in its path.

The mechanics of growth are tied to the constant absorption of the environment. Players will have to move around the map and capture fleeing villages, herds of animals and smaller fortresses of rivals, each of which becomes a source of resources for evolution.

Victories over large enemy castles open up further stages of development, and the player’s fortress not only receives an increase in characteristics, but literally increases in size.

Visually and mechanically Wanderburg combines heterogeneous elements of medieval and steampunk settings. Steam siege engines coexist with lasso artillery, knights ride on bicycles, and massive fortresses fire volleys reminiscent of naval battles on land.

The basis of the progression is a modular construction system. Players will have to assemble the fortress’s arsenal piece by piece, installing:

– cannons for ranged combat – lasso towers with magicians – explosive modules – additional structures for expanding the hull

Between runs, new modules, modes of transport, artifacts and captains are unlocked, expanding the available strategies and allowing you to experiment with builds.

The developers noted that each playthrough allows for a completely different approach to the development of the fortress, thereby increasing the replayability of the title.
