Saudi Arabia opens the annual Esports World Cup with the largest prize fund in history. This was announced by the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, Mohammed bin Salman. Clubs will compete in games of various genres to become the absolute world champions, the statement said.
“The Esports World Cup is the natural next step in Saudi Arabia’s journey to become the world’s leading hub for gaming and esports, offering an unparalleled experience that pushes the boundaries of the industry,” the Crown Prince said.
Sports, e-sports and gaming are part of the crown prince’s transformation plan known as Vision 2030, under which the Saudi government is investing hundreds of billions of dollars to diversify the kingdom’s economy and reduce its dependence on oil.
Earlier, Prince Faisal bin Bandar bin Sultan Al Saud officially became vice-president of the International Esports Federation (IESF).
