According to the IGN portal, the US film company Stellarblade LLC filed a lawsuit against the developer and publisher of the action game Stellar Blade. The plaintiff alleges trademark infringement and business injury due to Shift Up’s use of the name.
According to Griffith Chambers Mehaffey, owner of Stellarblade LLC, while customers used to be able to easily find information about his business, now people searching online for Stellarblade work find only the Stellar Blade video game. Additionally, citing the color schemes of the logos and the stylized letter S, he claims that his own business’s trademarks are “confusingly similar.”
The lawsuit notes that Stellarblade LLC has existed since 2010, and since 2006, the website stellarblade.com has been owned by the owner of the company, and he has been using it in his work since 2007. In January 2023, Shift Up registered the trademark “Stellar Blade”. And already in June 2023, Mehaffrey did this, after which a letter was sent to Shift Up demanding that they stop using this name.
The plaintiff demands compensation for all damages, including legal costs, a ban on the use of the names “Stellar Blade” by Shift Up and Sony, and the transfer of all materials with the inscription “Stellar Blade” for their destruction.
