The disastrous launch of the cooperative action game King of Meat led to layoffs at the Glowmade studio

British studio Glowmade, known for the co-op action game King of Meat published by Amazon Games, will face a wave of layoffs in January 2026. This was reported by several employees who had already received notices of the upcoming dismissal.

According to the portal Insider Gamingthe reason lies in the “disastrous launch” of King of Meat, which “significantly fell short of internal expectations.” The management expected that the project would be able to attract at least 100,000 concurrent players. However, the reality turned out to be much harsher: according to sources and the SteamDB database, the peak online reached only 320 people, and on all platforms the game could not consistently hold even 1000 players.

The failure occurred despite a multi-million dollar marketing budget involving many different YouTubers including Mr Beast’s Gaming. Additionally, advertising was carried out through branded buses in London and even an animated series.

According to the publication, the studio began discussing voluntary layoffs in early December – we are talking about about a dozen employees. Sources note that the cuts came as a surprise: earlier this year, management assured the team that Glowmade had enough resources to “move on calmly.”
