The Chinese studio Spark Nexa presented the first gameplay footage of the ambitious MMORPG Lord of the Mysteries, which is being developed on the basis of the Unreal Engine 5. The project is based on the work of the same name by the Chinese writer Cuttlefish, which combines elements of the Victorian era, steampunk aesthetics and motifs of the Cthulhu mythos. The video demonstrates the incredibly beautiful graphics of the game and allows you to take a look at Tiengen – one of the cities of the universe, recreated with detailed accuracy to the architectural canons of the original setting.
Despite the presence of the original source, the developers decided to distance themselves from a direct retelling of the events of the book. Players will take on the role of completely original characters, rather than following the path of the novel’s protagonist. According to representatives of the studio, their main priority is to deeply study the game world and its atmosphere, which should make the project accessible even to an audience that is completely unfamiliar with the book series.
Along with the publication of the trailer, applications for the first closed beta testing for PC began, which will begin on February 5, 2026 and will take place exclusively in China. To participate in the selection, you must fill out before February 1 questionnaireby providing contact information and confirming your phone number.
Lord of the Mysteries is planned to be released not only in China, but also in the global market. English speaking official website and social media pages are already open.
