Officially, the Multi Frame Generation technology from the DLSS package only works on RTX 50 series video cards, but enthusiasts have found a way to run it on much older Ampere generation accelerators.
The new mod adds support for the feature to RTX 30 cards, which Nvidia did not intend to provide it to.
In recent weeks, the community’s attention has been occupied by unofficial ports of neurorendering and more recent builds on older GPUs. Now it’s time for frame generation, which until now has remained tied to the Blackwell architecture.
Repo on GitHub called DLSSG SM86 allows RTX 30 owners to enable Multi Frame Generation in games where this option is natively only available on the RTX 50. Installation involves copying two additional files to the game’s executable folder.

After this, a frame generation item appears in the graphic settings with support for three modes at once:
-
multiframe x2
-
multiframe x3
-
multiframe x4
Videos demonstrating how the mod works have already been posted on YouTube, and in most cases the technology behaves the same as on officially supported hardware. One of the most convincing examples is running Cyberpunk 2077 on a GeForce RTX 3080 with frame multiplication enabled.
Nvidia does not support such modifications in any way and does not guarantee their stability. At the same time, the simplicity of the solution raises the question of why the manufacturer did not open the function for the RTX 30 independently, and at the same time for the RTX 40, where only regular frame generation without multipliers is officially available.
The situation on the video card market adds to the relevance of the fashion – prices for new models continue to rise, and owners of old GPUs are in no hurry to upgrade. According to a recent survey of Valve equipment, the RTX 3060, released five years ago, remains the most common video card among Steam users, so the audience for such a revision will be impressive.
