SEGA introduced the first gameplay personnel and details of the Sonic Racing: Crossworlds racing game. The game will be released on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X | S and Nintendo Switch, but the release date has not yet been announced.
In Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds players are waiting for dynamic routes, the ability to travel between worlds, extensive customization of transport and the return of loved ones by fans of a mechanic. The main innovation will be traveling rings that allow the leader of the race to change the location in the second round, transferring all participants to the new world. These transformations are called upon to make the races unexpected and rich events, turning the tracks into real thematic parks with obstacles, monsters and spectacular landscapes.
Another feature will be changing tracks inspired by Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed. Each race passes through three stages – earth, water and air, which forces the players to adapt and adjust tactics on the go. In addition, a gadget system that adds RPG elements will appear. Before the races, it will be possible to equip the characters with special modules that give bonuses to acceleration, attack and other parameters.
The game will offer the largest customization system in the history of the series. For the first time, the characters will not be attached to certain vehicles, and their characteristics can be combined to create unique pains. You can also change the appearance of cars, including colors, decalions and even the interior.
One of the main surprises was the return of extreme equipment from the Sonic Riders series – flying boards using the boost system. The developers also confirmed that the transformation elements from All-Stars Racing will again become part of the gameplay, making Crossworlds a kind of result of all previous games of the series.
Players on the PS5 will be able to try out the project earlier than output thanks to a closed network test. This stage will allow testing the main mechanics, except for extreme equipment, which the developers have saved for the release.
