Valve announced cost of VR gadget Steam Frame. The version with 256 GB of internal memory will cost customers $1,059, and the older version with 1 TB will cost $1,299.
Sales will begin on September 18, and when purchasing a helmet you can get Half-Life: Alyx as a gift.

Steam Frame is a complete VR kit that includes a wireless virtual reality headset and a pair of controllers. Valve noted that the gadget actually works as an independent PC – SteamOS, a Snapdragon 8 Series processor and 16 GB of RAM are installed inside.
This configuration puts the Steam Frame on par with modern portable gaming devices, and not with conventional VR headsets that depend on connection to an external computer.
Steam Frame Specifications:
-
LCD panels with a resolution of 2160×2160 pixels per eye
-
refresh rate from 72 to 144 Hz
-
Dual stereo speakers on each side of the helmet for surround sound
-
6 GHz wireless adapter with two radios for a stable connection
-
four built-in monochrome motion tracking cameras
Thanks to the four-camera system, setting up the gadget before the first launch should not take much time – tracking is positioned as ready for use immediately after switching on, without complex room calibration.
Initially, Valve planned to release Steam Frame before the end of summer, which the company announced back in early June. The official start date for sales has not yet been announced, but the publication of prices usually precedes the release of the gadget in the coming weeks.
