Hypixel Studios has released voxel sandbox Hytale into early access, a spiritual successor to Minecraft. The game is distributed through its own launcher and is sold on official website for $24.99.
The developers honestly warn that the current build is only the foundation of the future project and contains many shortcomings. At the current stage, two main modes are open to users: research and creativity. The first features an endless procedurally generated world with various biomes and monsters, where players can build houses, farm and craft equipment. The second one offers built-in model and texture editors, as well as specialized tools for managing entities. A full-fledged story mode with bosses and a deep progression system, as well as official mini-games, will appear in the project much later.
The developers have introduced the Ancient Gate system, which allows you to go to unstable temporary worlds to test new landscape generation algorithms, which in the future will become the basis for the entire planet Orbis. Also available is multiplayer support and an expanded modding toolkit created in partnership with Blockbench and CurseForge.
In the coming months, the studio intends to release updates as often as possible in order to quickly close gaps in basic functionality and correct errors identified during the massive influx of players. The team is already working on social features, including friend lists and proximity chat. Hytale’s future development roadmap will be adjusted based on direct feedback from the community, which users can send through the game’s built-in reporting system.
