STALKER: Clear Sky is a first-person shooter game created by Ukrainian developer GSC Game World and published by Deep Silver. This is the second episode in the universe and a separate prequel to the first episode.

Like the previous installment, Clear Sky is set in the exclusion zone of Chernobyl, Ukraine in 2011, five years after the second Chernobyl disaster. The player controls a mercenary known as Scar, who is used by the Clear Sky faction to pursue a group of stalkers trying to break into the center of the Zone. The game was first released on August 22, 2008 in Russia, then on August 25 in Ukraine, September 12 in Europe and September 15 in North America.

The gameplay is most reminiscent of that of Shadow of Chernobyl, but benefits from a new set of features with a new engine. The game area consists of many reconstructed areas featured in Shadow of Chernobyl, including the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant. New areas include the Great Swamp, the ghost town of Limansk-13, and the Liman Hospital, although places such as Rostock and Pripyat do not reappear.

As a shooting game, the project offers a wide variety of weapons, mainly weapons from the previous game. New additions include the RP-74 machine gun (based on the PK machine gun), the HPSS-1m (based on Browning’s Hi-Power) and the Hunting shotgun based on the TOZ-34 (interestingly, both of the latter weapons were originally intended to be introduced in Shadow of Chernobyl, but was cut during development). Combat alternates between the player fighting mutants (mutated animals) and the player fighting hostile humans. The mutants featured in the main episode are also carried over into this part and even updated. The artificial intelligence of enemies has been improved.
