South Korean game developer and publisher Krafton planned to acquire the IRONMACE studio, responsible for the PvPvE action game Dark and Darker. After discussing the terms of the deal, IRONMACE management decided to limit themselves to business partnerships and the transfer of rights to develop and publish a mobile adaptation of their game. The MTN portal reports this with reference to its internal sources.
According to the publication’s source, Krafton management wanted to close the current version of Dark and Darker for PC and develop a new one in order to avoid litigation with Nexon, in which the developers from IRONMACE were stuck. There is still no court decision on the case of copyright infringement and unfair competition by IRONMACE.
It was previously reported that Krafton’s interest was due to the desire of Tencent, which owns Krafton’s share, to create a project based on the franchise, which has attracted a lot of attention from players from all over the world. In a short time, Bluehole Studio, Krafton’s in-house studio, created Dark and Darker Mobile and already in November 2023 showed the game at G-Star 2023.
