Remedy has completely canceled co-op shooter Kestrel

Remedy Entertainment announced that it has canceled the co-op shooter under the working title Kestrel, formerly known as Vanguard. The game was announced back in 2020, and in 2023 development was completely restarted. The project was financed by the Chinese company Tencent, which also acted as a publisher.

The authors did not name the exact reasons for the transfer. The announcement states that the cancellation of Kestrel will allow the studio to focus on other games in development. There will also be no need for planned investments and the need for staffing will be reduced.

“Kestrel has shown great promise, but the project is in the early stages of development. Our other projects are moving forward successfully, moving to new stages, and by paying more attention to them, we receive significant benefits. We plan to redeploy talented developers from the Kestrel team to strengthen other game projects, thereby devoting more resources to our supporting functions. This will be another step towards ensuring the success of our gaming endeavors. I would like to express my gratitude to the Kestrel development team: despite the decision to stop the project in the interests of the broader goals of Remedy, they did an excellent job and brought us invaluable experience. “My gratitude also goes to Tencent for their cooperation and support,” said Remedy CEO Tero Virtala.

It is known that Remedy is currently working on at least a sequel to Control, PvE action game Condor and remakes of the first two parts of Max Payne.
