Level types

All levels in the game (if you are playing with the Rebirth and Afterbirth add-ons) are divided into several types. Basically, you will come across regular Caves, Blazing Caves, Flooded Caves and Dark Rooms. They follow each other, and the player must complete five levels before fighting the final boss (of which there are also several). Flaming and Ordinary caves can fall out first, the Flooded cave is usually the third level, and at the end everything becomes dark and, as it were, portends that very soon you will have to fight for the last time. Each type of cave has its own characteristics, but, in general, they differ little, except, of course, the appearance and the monsters living in it. In addition, each level has a secret room that can be opened by exploding bombs next to the walls. The secret room usually contains a corpse and something else – useful or not, and sometimes harmful.

Game process

Random plays the main role in The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth. Every time you play even just one character, you will get something new: a new level, new items, new bosses, a new arrangement of rooms and secrets, and so on. The first available character is Isaac, the rest can be opened by fulfilling certain conditions that are written under their image. But keep in mind that not all additional characters are on the list, so be prepared to accidentally open a secret character. Isaac has standard parameters: three hearts, one speed and three and a half damage, and also has one bomb as a starting item. By picking up various items at the levels, you can increase all the stats or, on the contrary, lower them. There are a myriad of items in the game, and you can only rely on your own memory to pick up some of them, especially pills. Characters remember their characteristics only for the duration of one playthrough, after death (or raising “amnesia”) everything is forgotten. It is best to remember what color pills make you feel bad, and everything will be fine. By the last level, you can build an imba that no enemy can counter (except your own carelessness, heh). Each level ends with a boss fight. If at first you will most often come across not very strong bosses, such as Monstro or Larry the Younger, then closer to the final battle you will have to sweat if you have not collected an imba or at least something similar to it. It all depends on the random, once again we repeat. This provides absolutely endless replay value until you get bored. The game also has coins and an arcade where you can exchange hearts for coins or knock out some object by playing a mini-game for a coin.

Plot

Well, have you decided to download the torrent or not yet? Mom and Isaac lived quietly until one day a voice spoke to Mom, which turned out to be the voice of God for her. Isaac’s mother is very religious, so she listened to every word. And the words were like this: her son is a sinner, and he must be punished. Mom obeys without hesitation and takes everything from Isaac, and then even locks him in an empty room. But God is not satisfied: he requires a sacrifice. And Mom takes a knife in her hand and goes to her son’s room. The same, seeing the knife in her hand through a crack in the door, quickly begins to look for a way to escape and decides to hide in the basement. And so the game begins. There are about 18 endings, so it will be interesting.
