Vampire: The Masquerade – Coteries of New York is a single player adventure game set in New York, in a world of darkness. The gameplay is mostly text-based and includes player choice and story choice. Depending on the choices the player makes, the narrative splits into different endings. In addition to the game’s main quests, the player has access to side quests and loyalty quests; the latter involves making bonds with the characters in their party (“hanging out”). This story focuses on the struggle between two vampire factions – the traditionalist Camarilla and the rebellious Anarchs – and allows the player to take on the role of one of three young vampires from different Camarilla clans: a passionate man from the Brujah clan, an entertainer from the Toreador clan, and a female manager from the Ventrue clan. The player’s clan influences their character’s ethics and dialogue, and how the player’s team members react to it. Clan choice also determines which vampiric abilities (“disciplines”) the player can use: the Brujah can use Celerity (increased speed) and Potential (increased strength); Toreador can also use Celerity and Auspex (supernatural senses); The Ventrue can use Fortitude (increased resilience) and Dominate (mind control); and all three can use Presence (to attract or frighten people). These abilities can be used to solve problems, as well as in combat situations and when interacting with characters. The game is available for download via torrent.
