After a series of rumors, on the evening of March 27, 2024, the official announcement of the multiplayer third-person hero shooter Marvel Rivals took place. We have already talked about this briefly in a separate news story, but in this article we decided to collect all currently known information, including both official information and leaks.
general information
- Marvel Rivals is a team-based hero shooter in the vein of Overwatch, but with a third-person perspective.
- The game is being developed by the Chinese company NetEase Games with the support of Marvel Games.
- The game will feature a variety of superheroes and supervillains, each with their own unique abilities.
- Some character skills can be combined with each other for team interaction. For example, Rocket Raccoon can climb on top of Groot, and Hulk is able to release Gamma energy to charge Iron Man’s armor.
- The main mode offers team PvP battles in a 6v6 format, but others may appear in the future.
- There are currently no plans for PvE modes.
- The game features many maps from the Marvel multiverse, from Asgard to Tokyo 2099.
- You can use superpowers to change the environment, rearrange the terrain, and create a strategic advantage on the battlefield. We are promised “countless” ways to change our environment.
- At the moment, Marvel Rivals is planned to be released only on PC, but the developers do not exclude the possibility of release on other platforms.
- The game will be distributed through Steam And Epic Games Store.
- Marvel Rivals is currently in development and the release date remains uncertain at this time.
- The game will be distributed free of charge (free-to-play model).
- Updates for Marvel Rivals will be released through seasons. Each seasonal update will introduce new characters, as well as challenging and varied maps.
- The game will be translated into 16 languages, including Russian.
- Voice acting will be in English and Chinese only.
Plot
Although Marvel Rivals will not have a full-fledged story campaign, the game still has its own backstory. According to it, the ruthless clash between the tyrannical dictator Doctor Doom and his future counterpart from the year 2099 caused countless universes to collide in the time stream, giving birth to new worlds and hitherto unknown crises. Now superheroes and supervillains from across the multiverse must fight together and against each other as disparate groups strive to defeat both Dooms before one achieves dominance over these realities.
Alpha testing
- Marvel Rivals closed alpha testing will take place in May 2024.

- During alpha testing, players will be able to play as characters such as Black Panther, Doctor Strange, Groot, Hulk, Iron Man, Loki, Luna Snow, Magik, Magneto, Mantis, Namor, Peni Parker, Rocket, Scarlet Witch, Spider-Man , Storm, Star-Lord and The Punisher.

Leaks
Even before the official announcement, a screenshot of the character window was leaked online.
From this image we can draw the following conclusions:
- Characters are divided into 3 classes.
- Judging by the inscription UNOWNED (not purchased), characters will need to be purchased – most likely for in-game currency or for real money.
- There is a tab for seasons – this is probably where the battle pass is located.
- In the Store tab, it will obviously be possible to purchase characters, skins, etc.
- The game has an in-game chat available right on the main screen.
