Development of the online shooter Vanguard from the authors of Alan Wake 2 has been restarted

Remedy Entertainment studio, known for such games as Alan Wake 1/2, Max Payne 1/2, Control and Quantum Break, announced a complete reboot of the multiplayer shooter Vanguard. The project returned to the concept stage, and its working name was changed to Kestrel.

Vanguard’s core concept will also change completely. If previously it was a free online shooter, now the authors are positioning their creation as “a premium game with a strong cooperative multiplayer component.” Unfortunately, details have not yet been announced.

“We’ve made great strides in developing the free-to-play multiplayer game Vanguard. After careful consideration, it became clear that taking a new direction, one that built the game more around Remedy’s core competencies, was the right way to go. We are developing another unique Remedy game with Tencent’s continued support in creating a great co-op multiplayer experience,” said Tero Virtala, CEO of Remedy Entertainment.

It is reported that part of the Vanguard development team will move on to work on other ongoing Remedy projects. Core management and select members of the Kestrel development team will focus on the new direction of the project.
