The development of the situation around a possible hack and leak of internal data from Epic Games ended with the recognition that there was no hacking. As it turned out, Mogilevich thus attracted the attention of victims for their scams.
The main scam was to take advantage of the hype about a string of hacks to sell fake ransomware. In total, 8 potential hackers fell for this. However, the scammers didn’t stop there. They asked victims in advance for screenshots of crypto wallets to demonstrate their authenticity. And these screenshots were already presented as evidence when selling a fake database of hacked crypto wallets.
This simple plan, based on deception and manipulation of information, brought the swindlers, according to them, tens of thousands of dollars.
