Patch 1.0, roadmap, price increase and console version – Everything you need to know about the release of 7 Days to Die

The Fun Pimps studio has announced that the survival simulator 7 Days to Die will leave the early access stage, which it has been in since December 2013. The developers were generous with details, so we have collected them all in this article.

Launch of version 1.0

  • 7 Days to Die will release in June 2024 on PC and July 2024 on consoles.
  • Along with the release, the game will receive a major update 1.0, which will bring with it the following: Completely redesigned vehicles, new animals, new gore system for zombies, zombie variability, new challenge system, new props, road stickers, new pools, updated VFX, graphics improvements, optimizations, random generation improvements and updated controller support.
  • The developers decided to release the game and make further planned changes in post-release updates.
  • Experimental builds of 7 Days to Die will continue to be released on Steam before the release of the stable version.
  • Players will have access to older alpha builds on Steam if Steam rules allow. This feature will not be available on other platforms.
  • The developers will continue to work on the features outlined on the Kickstarter roadmap. As mentioned earlier, some features will appear only after release.
  • An Apocalypse Edition subtitle was considered for the console versions of 7 Days to Die. However, after working with Microsoft and Sony, the developers decided that the best way to avoid brand confusion was to call the game a console edition.

Why version 1.0 is only being released now:

“We’ve been developing 7 Days for almost 12 years and have released over twenty major updates during Early Access that have taken the game to a significant difference in quality from where it started. Our team feels good about the work we’ve done, especially the significant overall progress, quality, and optimizations that have been made to the current release, planned for all PCs and consoles and ready to launch. We’ll now focus on other ways we can support ALL versions of the game – through our planned roadmap, free updates, and more! The Fun Pimps has supported and will continue to support the development of 7 Days to Die with the majority of its resources,” the developers said.

Road map

  • June (PC) / July (consoles) — Update 1.0. Details above.
  • 4th quarter 2024 — Improved weather and biomes, wardrobe system, cross-play for consoles, new zombie stages, Twitch Drops, DLC with cosmetics.
  • 2nd quarter 2025 — Bandits, interface rework, event system, new type of quests.
  • 4th quarter 2025 — Trade rework, story mode, Steam Workshop support, new type of quests.

Price change

  • With the launch of version 1.0, the price of 7 Days to Die will increase from $24.99 to $44.99.
  • The exact price in Russia has not yet been announced, but if the developers follow the recommendations on Steam, the game will rise in price from 449 rubles to 1,500 rubles.
  • From April 22 to April 29, 2024, the Steam service will host a large-scale Last Chance week-long sale, which will allow you to purchase the game at a profit before the price increases.
  • According to the developers, the reason for the price increase is that over the years the game has acquired a lot of new content and features. They also noted that this is a common practice on Steam.

Console version

  • 7 Days to Die will arrive on current generation consoles PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S with the release of update 1.0.
  • Although the exact release date for the console version is still unknown, the developers promise to try to release it a few weeks after the update launches on PC.
  • Support for cross-platform multiplayer on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S will not appear in version 1.0, as the developers are waiting for approval from Sony and Microsoft. However, the functionality is already completely ready for implementation. According to preliminary data, the function will be added in the fourth quarter of 2024.
  • Due to significant technical differences between the previous and current generations of consoles, developers will not update the old version for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
  • Owners of the game on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One will have to purchase the game again, but the developers are working closely with Sony and Microsoft to provide players with a discount on the purchase of the new console edition.
  • The old version of 7 Days to Die for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One will be removed from sale, but owners of the game will be able to continue playing it.
  • Saves from the old version of 7 Days to Die cannot be transferred to the new one, as they are not compatible with numerous new changes.
  • The authors plan to provide owners of the console edition with all the free updates that the PC version receives, maintaining parity with the PC in terms of cross-play.
  • If a feature is not technically possible due to hardware limitations or is otherwise limited by certification requirements set by Microsoft or Sony, it will not make it into the console edition.
  • Developers are discussing support for mods on consoles, but there are no concrete plans yet. The team is studying how this can be done while maintaining high performance.
  • Due to technical limitations and memory limitations, the split-screen feature is currently not possible in the console edition.
  • At the moment, the developers have no plans to release the game on other platforms, but they are considering this possibility.
  • There are no plans to release a physical edition of 7 Days to Die yet, but they promise to consider this issue in the future.

The console version will have several limitations:

  • Random Generation – The console edition will come with a collection of pre-generated maps and Navezgane. However, random generation will appear in a patch shortly after launch.
  • Level/Prefab Editor and World Editor – The console edition will not have a level or world editor.
  • Internet Connection/Server Connection – At launch, the console edition will be limited to peer-to-peer games on a single platform. As mentioned above, the developers intend to add cross-play support in Update 1, barring any certification requirements or technical obstacles.
  • Other Differences – The authors will release a document in the future detailing other specific differences in performance, networking capabilities, hosting capabilities, etc.
