Chinese company NetEase Games announced the opening of the first American studio Jackalope Games, based in Austin, Texas. It is led by industry veteran Jack Emmert, with titles such as City of Heroes, Neverwinter, Star Trek Online and DC Universe Online under his belt. The new team will reportedly be working on exciting multiplayer games for PC and consoles.
“NetEase Games is the best place for me and my team to thrive,” said Jack Emmert. “We share the same passion – to create exciting online universes for gamers around the world. NetEase Games provides the support and resources needed to build a great studio and great games.”
Jackalope Games will retain full creative freedom in developing and publishing games. Although the studio is based in Austin, it uses a virtual office and hires talent from all over the world.
The first project created by the team is fully funded by NetEase Games. There are no details about the game yet.
