Sales of failed MMO Wayfinder have been suspended

The multiplayer action role-playing game Wayfinder was released in early access back in August last year, but was not successful. The game received a lot of negative reviews regarding both its unsuccessful launch and problems with gameplay. As a result, players began to leave the project en masse, and if at the beginning the online number almost reached 25 thousand, now it barely reaches a hundred.

In November 2023, it was announced that Wayfinder would lose its publisher, Digital Extremes (creators of Warframe), and the game would be distributed by the authors themselves. Around the same time, it became known that the development of new content was suspended and the date of transition to Free-to-Play was postponed. Now the Airship Syndicate studio has decided to act more radically.

In a new letter, the developers announced that they are going to make significant changes to Wayfinder. They promise to talk about them in detail in the next few weeks, but for now the game has been withdrawn from sale. All users who have already purchased Founder’s Packs can continue to play since the servers will not be closed. At the moment, it is unknown when exactly the game will return to the digital store.

The full text of the letter is under the spoiler below:

We have reached an agreement with Digital Extremes to begin porting Wayfinder to Airship in earnest. Until this point, Digital Extremes remained the official publisher on Steam and PlayStation. We are now beginning the process of transferring these powers to Airship.

We know Wayfinder has had a rocky start, but we still believe in the game and the world we’ve created.

When we founded Airship, we wanted to create great games in immersive worlds, with memorable characters and adventures. With these core principles in mind, we’ve spent the last few months behind the scenes challenging some of Wayfinder’s core ideas and creating an experience that remains consistent with our standards and beliefs. At the same time, we kept in mind that we want to respect our founders and attract new players – all while ensuring that our business model as a new independent publisher remains feasible.

We plan to share these changes soon, but we’re not ready yet.

Due to these changes, we have suspended new sales of the game for now. Those who have already purchased Wayfinder can continue playing as normal without any interruption.

Airship is committed to keeping Wayfinder active and dynamic. There will be significant changes and improvements to the game, but we don’t plan for it to disappear like many of the online games we’ve all played and loved.

We think Wayfinder has the potential to be something special that will last forever.

Thank you very much for your support. Keep an eye on our social media for more information in the next 4-6 weeks.
