Story line

PC shooter Squad has been quietly one of the best realistic military shooters on the market, but it has always been lacking in the personality department. Luckily, there’s a new mod that turns Squad into the ultimate Starship Troopers game (and yes, there is an official Starship Troopers game). The Troopers mod is unofficial from the Startrooper experience, but you can’t deny that it was inspired by Paul Verhoeven’s legendary 1997 propaganda parody film. In it, you and a group of other soldiers try to defend the defense against waves of bug creatures that are intent on seeing you dead. As in the movie, the battles are fast, brutal, and chaotic. While it may seem odd to turn a realistic military shooter into a Starship Troopers game, the concept works surprisingly well. Unlike many other horde-style shooters, soldiers put a lot of emphasis on base building and defense. A careful fortification system within a squad means that it is often just as important to establish a defensive perimeter as it is to actively shoot down incoming bugs. The result is something like one of our favorite early access games, they are in the billions. Soldiers are quick to let you know that you’re unlikely to survive the mid to late waves of the game, but the fun part is that you refine your strategy enough to see if you can make it another round. The presence of other teammates simply adds another dimension of strategy – and a bit of camaraderie – to the proceedings. Excellent shooting mechanics and an emphasis on teamwork lead to an incredibly interesting modern Horde mode, which, as it turns out, is based on a great movie. In fact, we wouldn’t be surprised to see the game’s developers using the official PvP variant given how well the game mechanics fit into such a mode.

Game process

Engage in epic battles with over 300 bugs spawning at once, each with their own AI – 19 different types of bugs to face. Choose from 9 futuristic weapons, each with a dual function – from a standard Morita rifle (as seen in the movie) and a shotgun to a plasma rifle and nuclear launcher 12 single player levels with real-time combat and single infiltration missions. Various combat environments – indoor and outdoor levels including wide open battlefields, secret lab, claustrophobic insect nests, abandoned mines and Lonely OutpostsLAN and online modes including death match and co-op missions. The game view will be presented from the first person. Speaking about the graphical capabilities of the game, you should not go in cycles in the fact that it is in a very outdated style, since the gameplay and the idea itself are conceived perfectly.
