In August 2022, a report from PC Gamer revealed Games Workshop raked in over £25 million from video games in the previous 12 months. It also said there are plenty more video game titles to come from the company, which is historically famed for its tabletop games like Warhammer.

Although Warhammer has long been the gaming group’s bread-and-butter from a financial perspective, several non-Warhammer video games have hit the mark in recent years. Below, we celebrate the firm’s most popular releases away from the Warhammer franchise.

Talisman: Prologue

Designed as an adaptation of its popular board game, Talisman: Prologue takes players on a single-player journey. Whether it’s saving princesses, locking horns with dragons or retrieving missing relics, this solo adventure game carries the same immersivity as its tabletop version. Released in October 2013, it’s still a popular game to download on Steam today. In fact, it’s available to buy for the princely sum of £0.49.

Dark Future: Blood Red States

Released in April 2019, Dark Future: Blood Red States is a popular action indie game that transports you into a weird and wonderful dystopian environment. Developed in partnership with Auroch Digital, it fuses strategy and action role-playing game elements. You’re tasked with making tactical moves to survive on the dangerous roads that exist within the Blood Red States.

Chainsaw Warrior: Lords of the Night

Games Workshop once again teamed up with Auroch Digital to develop the Chainsaw Warrior series. Although the original title released in 2013 didn’t quite hit the mark, the Lords of the Night sequel got a better reception from the gaming community. You play the role of a retired cyborg from the American army who is called upon to save the world from the “Darkness”. You’ll draw adventures and scenarios from the virtual card deck and roll the dice to resolve each challenge.

The success of the above titles goes to show the Games Workshop Group company is still a big deal in UK and European gaming circles. In fact, the company is now listed within the FTSE 250, such has been its meteoric rise in value since delving into video games development and franchising some of its most successful titles.

Its share price has risen over 258% in the last five years to July 2023. However, the FTSE 250 is down over 10% in the same period, due largely to increased uncertainty surrounding the UK economy as the cost-of-living crisis ensues. However, the latest FTSE 250 predictions 2023-focused and beyond, suggest the worst may now be over for volatility in the FTSE 250 and the UK economy. This should give firms like Games Workshop the confidence to continue to expand their video game empire.

In fact, there are several other gaming stocks listed on the London Stock Exchange, some of which are also part of major indices like the FTSE AIM. The FTSE AIM consists of firms listed on the Alternative Investment Market, a sub-market of the London Stock Exchange for smaller, lesser-developed corporations.

Devolver Digital is an interesting gaming stock within the FTSE AIM. That’s because it’s a UK-based studio that also has a big role in the US-based gaming scene. Its primary role is to design and build indie games that provide a refreshing alternative to the big-money titles from the major studios. Its Serious Sam series has been a major boon and Fall Guys has been a global hit commercially.

Keywords Studios is another making plays in the FTSE AIM index. Although it’s not strictly a game developer per se, its team provides technical and creative support to bigger gaming studios that need to be agile to outsource aspects of game creation. As the Dublin-based firm isn’t on the hook for big-money losses if games flop commercially, the studio has been able to grow its own financials on a steady upward curve.
