Wolfenstein: Youngblood – Recommended way to play

image4 247 Wolfenstein: Youngblood - Recommended way to play

On this page of our Wolfenstein: Youngblood game guide you will find a good set of starting tips. Pay attention to any important or unusual mechanics. With this knowledge, you will be able to go through the initial stages more easily and reduce the risk of failure.

Playing with a friend is the recommended way to play

Wolfenstein: Youngblood does not force you to play the campaign with a real player, although this is the recommended way to play. If you have the Deluxe Edition, you can invite someone who doesn’t have a copy of the game to play with you. As a last resort, you can also try playing with a random player. However, it would be nice to have a person who takes care of you and explores the area thoroughly, because thanks to them you can get a lot of supplies and find a lot of collectibles (there are several hundred in the game).

  • The AI is less effective in difficult missions such as raids, which are an integral part of the campaign. While the AI helper can attack enemies effectively, it can be a problem for “her” to come to the rescue when your character is defeated and bleeding out.

  • Playing with AI does not exclude the limitation of shared lives. As in the case of cooperation with a real player, depleting shared lives ends the entire mission, and you must start it from the very beginning.

  • Playing with an AI companion eliminates additional tactical actions, such as when attacking opponents from two different sides. You cannot give any commands to your AI companion, but only mark individual enemies (an example is shown in the picture). The marked enemy will be a priority target for the AI.

The choice of sister does not matter.

Jessica and Sophie are twin sisters - Starting Tips for Wolfenstein Youngblood - Basics - Wolfenstein Youngblood Guide

Jessica and Sophie are twin sisters. Although their starting skills and equipment may differ slightly (starting skills and weapons are chosen when starting a new campaign), they will eventually have the same abilities and tools of destruction. None of the sisters have unique features, and this allows you to choose any playable character without worrying that something unusual or interesting will be missed.

The game cannot be stopped!

This is an important issue, ignorance of which can cost you the life of a controlled heroine - Starting Tips for Wolfenstein Youngblood - Basics - Wolfenstein Youngblood Guide

This is an important problem, the ignorance of which can cost you the life of a controlled heroine. The game cannot be paused during a mission. This will not happen when opening the options menu, nor when opening the log/journal. Events will continue in the background. You may be attacked unexpectedly if you are in a place where there are still enemies, or when enemy reinforcements may appear while browsing the menu.

If you need to visit the menu, do so only after you have dealt with a given group of enemies (and before approaching other enemies).

Carefully explore the surroundings and look for different ways to complete your mission

Wolfenstein: Youngblood rewards with many bonuses for exploring the area - Starting Tips for Wolfenstein Youngblood - Basics - Wolfenstein Youngblood Guide

Wolfenstein: Youngblood rewards many bonuses for exploring the area. This topic is discussed in more detail on a separate page of our guide called – Exploration and Collecting. Below you will find the most important information:

  • The mini-map can help you find alternative paths, but don’t be afraid to use the double jump, which is available from the very beginning of the game (it is activated by pressing the jump key again in the air). A controlled sister can reach high shelves or even the roofs of lower buildings.

  • Thanks to the use of alternative paths, you can, first of all, attack opponents from different sides. This is very useful if you are playing with a real player or just if the main path to the location is heavily guarded.

  • Exploring the area also leads to finding supplies (weapons, ammo, health, armor) and secrets, which we have collected in a separate chapter of our guide. Each secret or collectible found gives a bonus to XP. In addition, some secrets (for example, floppy disks) may contain hints, for example, regarding the location of secret caches.

  • You can’t get everywhere at once. Some secret areas (such as tightly closed metal doors) require certain abilities or weapons. Fortunately, you can return to areas of Paris that you have already visited before.

Unlock multiple starting abilities to improve your health

In Wolfenstein: Youngblood you can easily lose a whole bar of health points, but with some helpful abilities, you can make it easier for yourself to play the game - Starting Tips for Wolfenstein Youngblood - Basics - Wolfenstein Youngblood Guide

In Wolfenstein: Youngblood, you can easily lose a whole lot of health points, but with some useful abilities, you can make the game easier for yourself. Try the following starting skills from the mind skill tree:

  • First Aid (1 skill point) – After being resurrected by your sister, you will gain 25 health and armor points and become immortal for 4 seconds.

  • Health + (1 skill point) – Your health bar is constantly increasing from 100 to 125 points.

  • Second Aid (requires level 10, 1 skill point) is a strengthening of first aid skills. You can get 50 health and armor points each and be immortal for 6 seconds.

  • Health++ (requires level 10, 1 skill point) is a buff to the Health+ ability. Your health bar constantly increases to 150 points.

  • Health Collector (requires level 10, 2 skill points) – You can find more healing items near the corpses of defeated enemies. This is a particularly useful bonus in missions where many enemies are being fought.

Rely on Battle Shouts

Boosts in Wolfenstein: Youngblood are called Pep Signals, which motivate both sisters to continue fighting - Starting Tips for Wolfenstein Youngblood - Basics - Wolfenstein Youngblood Guide

The power-ups in Wolfenstein: Youngblood are called Pep Signals, which encourage both sisters to keep fighting. As a reminder, you can unlock one of two shouts that can restore 25 health or armor at the start of the game. An important feature is that each shout will work on both sisters, regardless of which sister activated it. As the game progresses, you can buy more expensive shouts with silver coins that offer better bonuses. The best shout from the game is shown in the picture above – Cyborg1980 allows you to upgrade the entire armor bar. Shouts do not consume supplies, but require a cooldown. Keep an eye on the charging indicator on the right edge of the screen and use the pep signal as soon as it becomes available (provided that your character needs to regenerate at the moment).

Try to travel with maximum life together and don’t forget to resurrect your fallen sister

Sophie and Jessica have a common pool of lives - Shared Lives - Starting Tips for Wolfenstein Youngblood - Basics - Wolfenstein Youngblood Guide

Sophie and Jessica have a common pool of lives – Shared Lives. Running out of all available lives means failing the mission and having to start over from the beginning (the game doesn’t create any checkpoints along the way). As a result, we advise you to always look for chests with hearts similar to those shown in the picture above. Opening each of them adds one life, and you can have a maximum of three lives left (when you reach the limit of lives, the rest will not be added).

In addition to finding new lives, try to resurrect your fallen sister. You will always get a message that she needs help and you need to contact her before she bleeds out. If you save your interlocutor, your life will not be taken from the general pool. The rescued sister will be able to return to battle.

The topic of mutual health saving is discussed in detail in our trophy guide on Rasputin’s achievements page.

Killing commanders makes it impossible to summon strong reinforcements

Before you start each new battle, you should look around from a safe distance to see if there are any commanders (one or more) in the area - Starting Tips for Wolfenstein Youngblood - Basics - Wolfenstein Youngblood Guide

Before starting each new battle, you should look around from a safe distance to see if there are any commanders (one or more) in this area. Starting a fight by getting rid of them (silently or in direct confrontation) will prevent the opponents from calling for stronger reinforcements. However, be aware that regular reinforcements will continue to be called after the alarm has sounded. Fortunately, dealing with them should be much easier.

Don’t waste silver coins on skins or useless items

Silver coins are the main currency in Wolfenstein: Youngblood - they can be earned, for example, by exploration, or completing a mission - Starting Tips for Wolfenstein Youngblood - Basics - Wolfenstein Youngblood Guide

Silver coins are the main currency in Wolfenstein: Youngblood – they can be earned, for example, through exploration or completing a mission. Spend coins only on the most important items, preferably from different categories. We especially recommend spending money on:

  • Improvements to the most commonly used weapons. Thanks to the acquired better parts, you can, for example, increase accuracy or increase damage.

  • Improved Warcry (Pep Signal) is the first cry you can choose at the start of the game, but upgrades guarantee better bonuses. Unfortunately, the best shouts are expensive.

  • Don’t spend money on armor, hats, or weapons. They can be very expensive (even a few thousand coins a piece), and do not change the characteristics of the controlled form and do not affect the gameplay in any way.
