Gerda: A Flame in Winter is a casual storytelling game that debuted for PortaPlay Gaming Aps. The game is made in an unusual style: low-poly models, as if they came from the era of the first PlayStation, are combined with background and character textures that seem to be painted in watercolor. The game is made in isometric pseudo-3D with a top view.

The plot of “Spark in the middle of winter” can be called both harsh and touching. In the center of the story is the girl Gerda, who has lived all her life in a small Danish village. Gerda works as a nurse, and her life is calm, quiet and full of little joys until the war comes.

When Nazi officers come to the village, Gerda’s life changes. Now she has a choice in her hands, in which on one side of the scales are the lives of people dear to the heart of the heroine, and on the other – her moral principles. The player’s task is, using ingenuity and intuition, to keep both bowls in balance. The story is based on real events that took place in the life of one of the women who were in the ranks of the Danish resistance during the Second World War. But the outcome of this story inside the game is in the hands of the player – the developers have provided several endings that can be achieved by developing Gerda’s personality and social connections.
