Monolith is an indie project made by studio D-13 in the retro style of old pixel games. Despite the “outdated” appearance, the game is characterized by a high pace and increased complexity.

The player controls a spaceship that makes its way through the darkness through the rooms of a gloomy building filled with an unknown threat. To learn the secret of the Monolith and gain power and strength, the captain of the ship will have to go through all the enemies and explore every room of the alien building. On the way, he will meet a variety of ordinary opponents, formidable bosses and unusual rooms, which in themselves pose a threat to the integrity of the ship.

The mechanics of the game combines scrolling shooters, bullet-halls and beat-ups of past decades into one dark story with ingenious selection of opponents. This game process will definitely appeal to those who once erased the keys to holes in the games of the Isaak, Enter the Dungeon and Touhou Project series. The story and surroundings can be reminiscent of both retro projects and relatively recent ones – for example, a reference to the Monolith from the story of Isaac Clarke, the protagonist of the Dead Space series, clearly suggests itself.
