Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas is an Action-Adventure Video Game developed by Rockstar North and published by Rockstar Games. It was released on October 26, 2004 for the PlayStation 2 and June 7, 2005 for Microsoft Windows and Xbox. The updated high-definition version received a physical release for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on June 30, 2015 and December 1, 2015, respectively.

It is the seventh title in the Grand Theft Auto series and the first major entry since 2002 Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. It was released on the same day as the Grand Theft Auto Advance handheld game for the Game Boy Advance. The game was added to the Xbox One Backward Compatible Library on June 8, 2018.

Users play from a third person in an open world, which allows the player to interact with the game world in their free time. The game takes place in the fictional American state of San Andreas, which is largely based on California and Nevada. The State of San Andreas consists of three metropolitan cities: Los Santos, based in Los Angeles; San Fierro, based in San Francisco; and Las Venturas, based in Las Vegas.

One player’s story follows Carl “C.J.” Johnson, an ex-gangster who returns home to Los Santos from Liberty City after the murder of his mother. Carl finds his old friends and family in disarray, and as the game progresses, he tries to rebuild his old gang, clashes with corrupt cops, and gradually unravels the truth behind his mother’s murder.

The plot is based on numerous true events in Los Angeles, including the rivalry between the Bloods, Crips and Spanish street gangs, the 1980s crack epidemic, the LAPD Rampart scandal and the 1992 Los Angeles riots.
