Boston Dynamics autonomous robot was tested in the exclusion zone for the first time
The robot dog Spot of the American company Boston Dynamics was first tested in the Chernobyl exclusion zone. This was reported by the State Agency of Ukraine for the Management of the Exclusion Zone on the official page on the social network Facebook.
The tests were carried out by a research group of the University of Bristol in conjunction with specialists from GSP TsPPRV (State Specialized Enterprise “Central Enterprise for Radioactive Waste Management”).
Also used were drones-drones, ground-based robotic systems, sensors-scanners to assess the distribution of radioactive materials in the area and in space, including photogrammetry, lidar, gamma spectrometer, hyperspectral and neutron sensors.
In particular, radiometric and geophysical work was carried out on the territory of two sectors of the “Red Forest” temporary localization point for radioactive waste and on the territories of the “Podlesny” and “Buryakovka” radioactive waste disposal sites.
As a result, the specialists plan to obtain 3D images and maps of the distribution of radionuclide activity, as well as images of the “Red Forest” with contaminated areas.
